Hi. It's Nadine again, I know it's been a while since I've had any updates on the tent school. Things have been a little bit crazy.

But I'm happy to say that everything's finally set, and I'll be hosting a little mixer for all the volunteers this weekend at the school. Anyone who is still interested in teaching, or anyone new who'd like to help out, we can get together and hammer out the final details on scheduling and everything.

And figure out what to actually call the school.

But anyone who's helped out is welcome to come by.

There's going to be food! I really want to show my thanks to everyone who donated time, money, or supplies to help this all come together.

We're open to all ages.

We plan to offer the general basics as well as things more specific to Panorama and the world around it. Survival skills, auto maintenance, those sorts of things.

[ ...Wait, auto maintenance? Forget the teacher angle, now she's thinking about enrolling herself. Storms.

But sticking to her original line of inquiry. ]

'General basics' is rather vague. Could you provide examples?

Sure, of course.

Science, math, problem solving, research skills, critical thinking, time management, that sort of thing. And social skills and communication and other foundational stuff if we end up with little ones.

Fascinating. Literacy, too, I imagine?

Literacy, too. We have a small collection of books for various age ranges, thanks to some generous donations.

Were you interested in getting involved in some capacity?

Perhaps. Admittedly, my experience is in teaching one student at a time — and young women, exclusively.

Teaching a mixed class would definitely be a big change.

But you're welcome to come by and observe, if you'd like. To see how it is and how we do things.

Which we'll be figuring out a lot as we go, anyway.

Is it quite a new endeavour?

It is, everything's still being finalized. We're 100% a volunteer project, we made the tent ourselves. And spent a lot of time cleaning and fixing and building all the furniture.

It's been a lot of work, but it's worth it. There doesn't seem to be any formal schooling here.

[ — Truthfully, the volunteer aspect gives her pause. Not that she's ever needed to turn a profit on teaching. No scholar worth her ink, back in Alethkar, would demand payment from her ward. But things are different here. She doesn't have the resources or latitude to which she is accustomed.

About a dozen volunteers altogether, but only a few of us are actual teachers. Either with experience or without.

I'm an elementary school teacher. Or I was, I guess I'm an all grades teacher, now.

In a lot of places, schools are divided into levels of classes by age. Where I come from, each level is called a grade. First grade, second grade, third grade...

Elementary school covered first grade to fifth grade. I'm used to teaching kids in the single digit ages. Seven and eight year olds.
