Hi.

My name is Nadine, and before this, I was a school teacher. You might have noticed there aren't any schools of any kind here.

So I'd like to set up a tent school, if I can get together all the supplies I need. It wouldn't be daily, I have a job, but on my days off I want to offer classes for anyone who wants them. I taught elementary school so all I can offer are the basic foundations - spelling, math, reading and writing, that sort of thing. But there are people here who need that.

If anyone's willing to, I'd really appreciate if you could let me know about any good places to hit to scavenge things for a classroom. Or even if you see anything while you're out and could maybe grab it for me, I'd owe you a favor. And of course if anyone wants to help in any way, you are welcome to.

Hi, it's good to meet you. We really would be just covering basics, if you don't mind such a downgrade - it would be amazing to have other teachers involved.

No such thing as a downgrade when it comes to shaping minds! I would be grateful to be able to teach again. The basics are extremely important.

I don't know how many students we'll actually get, but it doesn't really matter. Even one is worth the effort.

We won't know until we start and see! I imagine that even if a typical education isn't available here, they'll still want their children to be able to read and write, and don't have the opportunity. If we provide, they may find us.

That's what I'm hoping, anyway. I thought I'd post flyers, once I had everything set. Around residential areas, groceries, places where they'll be likely to be seen.

I can put it up at the hospital too, the medics there are probably the kind to appreciate education in all forms. Getting the word out is the first stage. I wonder if there would be a way to get our hands on a blackboard, if there is one here. Perhaps a long shot.

A blackboard or even a dry erase board would be amazing.

But I have no idea where to even start looking.

Agreed! And furniture. Many strange things are dropped in this world, I'll ask around, see if somehow typical school supplies have been brought in.

I did some teaching in the past. I’d be happy to help out if you need it.

Or go looking for supplies with you.

Any help is appreciated, really. I will certainly take you up on the offer for company getting supplies. I'm a little nervous about the zones, I've heard it can get pretty dicey.

And it would be really amazing to have more than one teacher involved. In whatever way. Thank you.

That sounds like a great idea. I've never taught before but I can certainly keep an eye out for supplies.

Thank you. Things like books, notebooks, writing supplies, craft supplies, toys and games for younger kids... even things like rugs and pillows and fun decoration would make a big difference.

A white board or chalkboard would be amazing.

Do you have a place in mind you're thinking of setting up?

Not yet. It depends on what size structure I'm actually working with.

What age group did you teach before?

I taught second grade, but I'm technically qualified to teach elementary up to fifth. I have the most experience with second, so 7 and 8 year olds mostly.

That's especially impressive then. It's difficult to make young children sit still and behave.

You just have to be patient and connect with them on their level. Make learning fun and something they WANT to do.

You could say the same for adults. I wouldn't mind sitting in on a lesson if I had a teacher like you.

Well, you're welcome to come check us out once we're actually offering classes.

But really, teaching was just my Calling. I didn't ever want to do anything else.

Must have been nice to know exactly what you wanted to do. Most people don't.

There were certainly times when it was comforting to know what the future held.

I suppose there is always a place for knowledge and learning, no matter where you go.

But I'll keep an eye out for supplies.

This is a wonderful idea and very generous of you to offer your services and experience!

I have been collecting a variety of books and pamphlets for my own education, but I would be happy to share them with you and your potential students. Admittedly, they have been mostly around mechanics and the sort of automated vehicles used around here, but I have a few others as well.

I just don't think it's fair that there's no easily accessible opportunity for education here.

Honestly, considering how important cars are to life in this world, having some books on cars probably isn't a bad idea for a classroom.

Not at all. Though I have recently been made aware of a specific technology that might suit your needs. Have you heard of a "photocopy machine"?

That's very true.

I am familiar with photocopiers. We used them back in my world all the time. Do you have access to one?

Oh, are you? Yes! I managed to procure one that is in need of some repair. But I would be in your debt if you would be able to teach me how to operate it.

I can teach you how to use it. They're pretty simple, once you've seen one used. I used one pretty much daily for work when I was teaching.
