Greetings, residents.
I trust this finds you all in good health and positive spirits. I am a relatively new arrival to this place, having got to grips with the basics over the last few weeks. I am aware that a number of others have likewise arrived recently, hailing as I understand it from a variety of ages and locales. My companion and I, for our part, have found much to learn, and not a little to unlearn.
I recognise that this situation is rather an unusual one, and as such I take it upon myself to suggest that we – by which I mean the recently arrived – might find it of some benefit to work together to pool our knowledge. I am open to ideas on what this "pooling" may consist of, but at the very least we ought to convene face to face at some point to share what information we each have individually and contribute to a whole sum of wisdom.
Some of us may have arrived with more understanding of the technological advancements of this place, I accept, but we all have knowledge to share, and no knowledge is too small to be of benefit to the whole.
With sincere hope for your engagement,
Jack Rackham

I'm a cartesian engineer.
( which is basically analytic geometry, with a need of knowledge in physics and engineering, which is the basis for aviation, rocketry, space science and spaceflight, and including also computer science... a proper nerd. )
Putting things together and making it work is something I do.
My name is Gustave, by the way.

[ Still doesn't really feel like meeting when he's typing on this dinky little device, but he'll take what he can get. ]
Seems like you must be ahead of the curve compared to a lot of individuals around here.

( 'uh', that's the french you're getting out of him. )
Au contraire, this place is a lot more advanced than my home. Some aspects are very familiar, because science tends to be a constant, but I am learning, too. Cars and phones seem nothing new to many others, but they aren't too sure on how exactly they work.
( and perhaps it's irrelevant, but it's something gustave wants to figure out. )

I've been given incredibly vague explanations about "reception" and "transmitting" and "the Internet".

I do suppose it's not that easy to explain. You could imagine it as threads on the seams of clothing, how it all connects.
